Scott Russell Smith, 48, passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2024, after succumbing to a lingering illness he could no longer fight. His gentle, loving and giving heart stopped beating and has left us much too soon. Scott was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend and we are deeply saddened by his passing. Heaven has definitely gained another angel.
Scott was born September 25, 1975, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Veronica (Roni Jentz) Franz and Don Smith. As a child, he moved to Appleton with his family where he went to school and enjoyed growing up on Drew Street. Scott later moved to Manitowoc where he lived and worked for a few years but eventually moved back to Appleton to be closer to family and friends. He enjoyed music, remodeling, woodworking, visiting thrift shops, a good campfire, the Green Bay Packers, Elinor (his cat) and spending time with family and his many friends. Scott had a quick wit, a touch of sarcasm and enjoyed sharing a good story or joke. He was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. We will miss his laugh, his stories, his texts and especially hearing him say “love you much.” If you were loved by Scott, that love was sincere and honest.
Scott is survived by his mother and stepfather Roni and Alan Franz, father, Don Smith, sister, Jennifer Kramer (Dan Noel), stepbrother, Jeff Franz, nieces, Berit and Lily Kramer and nephew, Thomas Kramer. Scott is further survived by his beloved grandmother, Alice Claypool (Bono), many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and by his closest and dear friend, Judy Salmon. Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathers Pete Jentz and Dr. Blaine Claypool and paternal grandparents Shelby and Beverly Smith.
