Sandy F. Biekkola

Age 61, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Peabody Manor following a lengthy illness. Sandy was born November 26, 1941 in Ishpeming, Michigan, the daughter of Vivian Laitala Maki of Ishpeming and the late Victor Laitala. She was a graduate of Northern Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education. After her marriage to Bill Biekkola on August 15, 1964 in Republic, Michigan, she taught at Park School in Kaukauna, Harrison School near Sherwood, and St. Pius X School in Appleton. She was a longtime and active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaukauna and was a former member of King’s Daughters. In her younger years, Sandy enjoyed playing bridge, golf, attending sporting events, and spending time at the family cottage near Rhinelander. Her most treasured times were spent with family and friends. She is survived by her mother: Vivian Maki of Ishpeming, Michigan; two sons: Tim (Debi) Biekkola of Minneapolis and Todd Biekkola of Minneapolis; two brothers: David (Sara) Laitala of Champion, Michigan and Larry (Peggy) Laitala of Ishpeming, Michigan; a brother-in-law: Fred (Ellen) Biekkola of L’Anse, Michigan; a sister-in-law: Mary Wright of Marquette, Michigan; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 1995, her father Victor Laitala, her step-father Arvo Maki, and sisters-in-law Rachel Laitala and Anna (Bill) Johnson.

Funeral services for Sandy will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 124 W. 10th Street in Kaukauna with Rev. Walter Steinbach officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 – 8 PM and again Tuesday at the church from 11 AM until the hour of the service.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Heritage Assisted Living and to Peabody Manor for the wonderful care they gave to Sandy. Thanks also to the many friends for their continuing support and faithful visits over the years. Your love and care for our family will never be forgotten.
