Age 83, died on Friday, April 18, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Marinette, WI on August 18, 1924 the daughter of the late Edward and Edith (Peterson) Christensen. Ruth moved to Kaukauna at the age of 17 where she resided for the remainder of her life. Ruth was married 53 years to Joseph L. Pitz who preceded her in death in 1999. Through their marriage they had six children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ruth set the example of aging gracefully. After selling the family home she moved to Canal Place where she renewed old friendships and established new ones. She inspired her children by her strength and independence. Throughout her life Ruth enjoyed the company of family and friends. There was never a “wasted” moment. Her many hobbies kept her busy. She never sat to relax without a knitting or crocheting project in her hands.
Ruth is survived by her children: Joseph A. (Jean) Pitz of Shrevesport, LA, Pamela (Ron) Lax of Covover, WI, Sally (Paul) McCaughey of Brookfield, WI; David (Sharon) Pitz of Marquette, MI; Mary (James) Moran of Pebble Beach, CA; and James (Amy) Pitz of Darboy, WI. She is further survived by her sisters: Lucille and Mildred; her loving grand and great-grandchildren; many beloved sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Pitz, brothers: Donald and Raymond; sisters: Janet and Evelyn; and an infant grandson.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at PEACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 2300 Wisconsin Ave., Kaukauna, with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
Ruth will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family extends a special thank you to Angela and Terri from Theda Care at Home for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, a memorial fund in Ruth's name will be established for Theda Care at Home and the Peace United Methodist Church Building Fund.
