Ruth Emilie George, age 80, of Appleton, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 9, 2015. She was born in Appleton on January 26, 1935, daughter of the late Ervin and Helga 'Dolly” (Hansen) Werner. Ruth graduated from Appleton Senior High School and attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. As a young woman, she worked at Riverside Paper Mill. She always carried with her many warm memories of being one of Job's Daughter's Honored Queens. On October 3, 1959, she married the love of her life – John “Tony” George” at St. Mary Church in Appleton.
Ruth loved cooking, baking, and caring for her perennial flower gardens. She was an avid Packer fan, and never missed a game, having received her season tickets back in 1958. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughters Amanda and Angela. Ruth had a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and loved listening to and singing sacred hymns. She will be remembered for her kindness, her listening ear, her compassion, and her generosity.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of fifty-six years: John “Tony” George of Appleton; two children: Richard (Susan) George of Appleton and Jean George of Appleton; two loving granddaughters: Amanda and Angela George; a brother: Ray (Dorothy) Werner of Tacoma, Washington; three sisters-in-law: Blanche Werner of Riverside, California, Marie George of Trinidad, Colorado, and Theresa George of Trinidad, Colorado; and a brother-in-law: Richard George of Trinidad, Colorado. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Joe Werner, Dick (Annabelle) Werner, and Gene (Dorothy) Werner; her sisters: Helen (Doug) Chevalier, Anna (Herb) Baehman, and Betty Werner; and a brother-in-law: Gerald George.
