Age 69, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 17, 2004. Russ was born in Hilbert on December 31, 1934, son of the late Riley and Luella (Bloch) Bishop. He was a graduate of the Kaukauna High School, and as a young man excelled in boxing and earned a pair of Golden Gloves. Russ later served as a Marine Reservist for eight years. On June 28, 1981 he married Alice Gilhuber Young; she survives. The couple was very interested in family history and genealogy and were charter members of the High Cliff Historical Society. Russell was currently serving as the society’s president.
Russell was a loving father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by his wife: Alice Bishop of Hilbert; four sons: Douglas (Anita) Bishop of Kaukauna; Steven (Kalen) Bishop of Little Chute; Craig Bishop of Appleton and his friend Kurt Van Voorhis; Todd Bishop of Hilbert and his friend Topper Stasby; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Bishop of Kaukauna; Ross Bishop of Little Chute; Sarah Bishop of Little Chute; Jimmy (Sue) Murray of Stratford; Michelle (Brett) Bakner of Fairfield, California; Dawn Murray of Fort Atkinson and her friend Ben; Melissa (Charles) Barbour of North Carolina; four great-grandchildren; three sisters: June Everett of Hilbert; Beverly (Art) Boesch of Hilbert; Bonnie Lou Bishop of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as many nieces, nephews. Russ is also survived by Alice’s children: Kathleen Murray of Lake Mills; Jerome (Linda) Young of Slinger; Gail (Lee) Familetti of Marshfield; Larry Young of Marietta, Georgia; Alice’s brother and sisters: Gordon (Virginia) Gilhuber of Hales Corners; Joyce Adamaczyk of Milwaukee; Ilene (Jerry) Patterson of St. Clair, Missouri.
Funeral services for Russ will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steven Cole of the Worldwide Church of God officiating. Interment will be in High Cliff Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 – 8 PM and again Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the services.
