Rosella (Sally) Wassmann, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on May 20th, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born on the 14th of February, 1933, in the Town of Maine, Marathon County. Sally was the youngest of nine children born to Martin and Mathilda Goetsch (nee Grueneberg). She grew up on the family farm and worked in several jobs in the greater Wausau area prior to marrying Roger Johnson in 1952. They were blessed with three sons, Todd, Scott and Craig. Being a full-time mother to her boys was a challenge that she readily accepted, and excelled at. She made sure the boys had the right mix of school, sports participation and religious instruction.
After Roger passed, Sally relocated to Appleton seeking a new beginning and quickly found work at a local supper club. That is where she met her future husband, Norm Wassmann. They married in 1977 and spent the next 39 years as a happy couple. Some of her favorite pastimes were golfing and rummage sale shopping. She and Norm enjoyed numerous vacation trips to far flung places like Germany, Jamaica, and Cancun and many American locations too, such as Arizona, Florida, and Mississippi, among many others.
Sally is survived by her eldest son Todd, and his wife, Maria, of Dayton Ohio. She is further survived by daughter-in-law Idella Johnson of Tennessee, daughter-in-law Mary Pat (Fritz) Johnson of Arizona, Grandchildren Sarah (Tony) Kosobucki (nee Johnson), Michael (Autumn) Johnson, and Jennifer (Steven) Nystrom (nee Johnson), as well as great- grandchildren Ellie Kosobucki and Everliegh and Ellarie Fox-Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Norman C. Wassmann, and sons, Scott and Craig Johnson, as well as step-son, Gary Wassmann.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at Wichmann Funeral Home Appleton, Tri-County Branch. Interment at Highland Memorial Park will follow immediately afterwards. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
The family wishes to acknowledge the steadfast support of Tony and Lynn Wassmann for all they have done to help Mom in the past.
