Ronald F. Schurer

September 10, 1946 — November 20, 2006

Ron Schurer, age 60, joined his Lord in heaven on Monday, November 20, 2006, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born in Neenah on September 10, 1946, son of the late Arthur Schurer, Sr. and Gert (Weber) Delfosse of who resides in Neenah. Ron attended Menasha High School, and then entered the armed forces. Ron was proud of his service in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1969, and was a member of the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 of the American Legion. On December 7, 1985, Ron married the love of his life, the former Tami Butterfield. The couple was able to share twenty wonderful years together. For over thirty years, Ron had been employed in a variety of positions at Menasha Corporation. In 2002, he ventured out on his own and opened his own home repair business. Those who knew Ron will understand that this was the perfect business for him – he was meticulous in his work, and will be remembered by everyone as an expert carpenter and craftsman. Ron loved the outdoors, and could usually be found spending his free time golfing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, or spending time at Crooked Lake. He had one more skill everyone knew about: he loved to play armchair quarterback for the Packers. Through the years, though, he remained an avid Packer Fan.

Ron is survived by his wife: Tami Schurer of Appleton; his mother: Gert Delfosse of Neenah; nine brothers and sisters: Dick Farr of Crooked Lake and his friend Kathy; Skip Schurer of Neenah and his friend JoAnn; Butch Schurer of Menasha and his friend Cathy; Gene (Sharon) Farr of Menasha; Joan (Dave) Zeinert of Neenah; Peggy (Don) Kloepfel of Menasha; Dolly (John) Mischler of Appleton; Connie Gaschler of Menasha and her friend Rick; and Debbi (Jim) Schwehr of Victor, Montana; a sister-in-law: Lisa (George) DeBruin of Sherwood; and his mother-in-law: Joyce Butterfield of Appleton. Ron is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, special neighbors, dear friends and several special godchildren. He was preceded in death by the loving man who raised him, Ken Farr; a sister-in-law Terry Schurer, and his father-in-law Ken Butterfield.

The Christian Funeral for Ron will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at RIVERVIEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 136 West Seymour Street in Appleton with Rev. Dennis Belter officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place Monday morning at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Saturday morning at the church after 10:00 AM.

Ron’s greatest joys in life came from spending time with family, being there for those in need, and helping others. We will forever miss his generous spirit, his sense of humor, and his warm heart.
