Borchardt, Roland A. C.
Roland A. C. Borchardt, age 80 of Appleton, passed into heaven to be with his Lord, Saturday evening, June 7, 2008, with his family by his side. He was born April 19, 1928, to the late Alvin and Esther (Klinck) Borchardt, in Elmira, Ontario Canada. Roly graduated from Elmira High School in 1945, from the University of Toronto in 1949 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree and from the University of Wisconsin in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Pharmacy Degree to practice pharmacy in Wisconsin. He received his license to practice Pharmacy in 1953. On August 18, 1951 he married Lois J. Mech of Clintonville, at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville. The family resided in Madison, Beaver Dam, and Clintonville and since 1957 in Appleton. He gained experience in pharmacy in a variety of settings before beginning his life's work in September 1958 as manager of the pharmacy of Appleton Memorial Hospital, later Appleton Medical Center, until his retirement in 1991. He continued from December 1991 to September 1993 as a staff pharmacist for a total of 35 years of service. During that time the pharmacy grew in many directions, along with the hospital, hours of service, kinds of services, sophistication of services and of course staff. In 1958, Roly was the staff: in 1991 there were 10 pharmacists, 1 administrative assistant and 12 technical and clerical helpers. Roly devoted his pharmacy career to helping people. He became an American citizen in 1961. Roly was a member of Faith Lutheran Church (and served on various boards and committees), Golden K Kiwanis, and Orphan Grain Train-Wisconsin Division. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife Lois; his son, Brian (Jackie) Borchardt, Appleton; his two daughters, Brenda (Chaplain Jonathan) Shaw, Virginia; Barbara Riddle, Menasha; eight grandchildren, Katie (Paul) Godfroy, Kyle and Julie Borchardt, Susie, Christi and Jonathan II Shaw, Joshua and Tommy Riddle; two brothers, R. Paul (Judy) Borchardt, Texas; Walter (Dianne) Borchardt, Minnesota; two sisters, Ruth Rouse, Texas; Barbara (Richard) Suchomel, Minnesota. A memorial service for Roland will be held at 4:30 pm, Thursday, June 12, 2008, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, with Reverend Daniel Thews, officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, from 2:00 pm, until the time of the service. Memorial funds have been established for The Radio Ministry of Faith Lutheran Church, Orphan Grain Train- Wisconsin Division and the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research.
