Roger L. Comeau

Roger L. Comeau, 83, Appleton, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021. He was born on October 4, 1937, to the late Darrell and Marian (Johnson) Comeau in La Crosse.

Roger graduated from Aquinas High School in 1955, the Marquette College of Dentistry in 1961 and the University of Pennsylvania in 1963 as an oral surgeon.   Roger was united in marriage to Emily Pehler on June 18, 1961, in La Crescent, MN. He volunteered and was commissioned in the United States Army in 1964 and served in Japan as a Captain during the Vietnam War; Roger was honorably discharged in 1966. He and Emily then moved to Appleton to begin the first oral surgery practice here with Dr. Roger Mosher and raise their family.  In 1975, Roger had a diving accident that left him with a spinal cord injury.  While he could not perform oral surgery, he continued to work with his partners and provided practice management. He held many offices within the Wisconsin Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Midwest Society of Oral Surgeons.  He also volunteered in many ways at Sacred Heart Parish and considered the community his extended family. Loving Emily, helping others and caring for his family were his greatest joys.

Roger is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years Emily, children Leslie (Alan) Stewart, Paul (Wendy) Comeau, grandchildren Nathaniel, Patrick and Melanie Stewart and Laura and Marian Comeau. He is further survived by his two brothers Glen (Jeanette) and Alan (Pat Pence) and their families.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E Fremont St, Appleton, WI 54915. Visitation will be held in the church starting at 10:00 Am until the hour of service.  Burial will take place in Pine Creek Cemetery, Pine Creek, WI at a later date. Face masks are required and social distancing will be implemented.

The family would like to thank the ER, ICU and hospitalist nurses and doctors at Theda Care Regional Medical Center Appleton, Dr. Jack Anderson and Dr. Robert Sarsfield for their excellent care and compassion.  We would also like to thank the Theda Care at Home nurses, Home Instead staff, Sacred Heart staff and friends for all of your kindness and support.
