Roger Glenn Kahler, age 77, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, at Rivers Bend Nursing Center in Manitowoc. Roger was born in Appleton on November 16, 1946, to Elmer and Martha (Brockman) Kahler. Upon graduating from Appleton East High School, he was drafted into the US Army and served his country in Vietnam. Returning from Vietnam was difficult for Roger, but he worked and made a life for himself.
After many years he finally asked Roselinda “Linda” Biese on a date out and the rest is 33 years of history! They went out to Red Lobster for dinner. They enjoyed spending time at the American Legion in Appleton just to be with friends and enjoy a meal. Roger and Linda enjoyed good meals no matter where they were-their road trips often took them to new places.
Adventures at the camper in Ogdenberg were summer highlights for Roger. He spent hours floating on the lake and loved to fish. He was known for creating fires that were perhaps too large for conditions.
Roger enjoyed woodworking and was a skilled carpenter. He also enjoyed building model cars and eventually started work on model helicopters. He so enjoyed making things with his hands-Linda has many of the pieces he made around her home. Roger loved Clint Eastwood movies and could watch them over and over whenever they were on tv.
Roger is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda; his brother Gregg (Shari) Kahler, dearest friend Patrick “Patty” (Vicky) Tracey, good friend Ray Munoz and fur faces: Morris, Rozie, Bennie, Bear and Izzy in addition to other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Evelyn Wegner as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday June 13, 2024, at 12:00pm at Wichmann Funeral Home-Tri County Chapel, 1592 S Oneida, Fox Crossing. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 11:00am until the service begins. Full military honors will follow. Roger will be placed at Highland Memorial Park Appleton.
