Age 91, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2005 at the Rennes Care Center. Bob was born in Appleton on May 23, 1914, son of the late Vernon and Emma (Asman) Rule. As a young man, Bob enjoyed sports of all kinds, but especially excelled at basketball and baseball. Professional scouts heard of his baseball talents while he was still in high school, and even offered him a chance to play at the professional level. However, Bob knew that he was needed at home during those days, and voluntarily bypassed that opportunity. During World War II, he served in the United States Army, and was stationed in the southern United States. Following his military service, he worked for many years at Wisconsin Power and Light. In June of 1964, he married the former Beatrice Pavey; she preceded him in death. Everyone will remember Bob for his kind manner, and as the “gentleman’s gentleman.” He always opened the doors for the ladies.
Bob is survived by a nephew: Bob (Kathy) Harris of Oshkosh and their children Sarah and Lisa, as well as by other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife Beatrice.
Funeral services for Bob will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 E. South River Street in Appleton with Rev. Jane Anderson officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.
