Age 89, passed away Monday, August 19, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Bob was born in Stockbridge on January 25, 1913, son of the late Edward and Mary (Elmer) Hostettler. On October 11, 1941, he married the former Mildred Parker at St. Mary Church in Kaukauna; she survives. Bob was employed by Thilmany Pulp and Paper in Kaukauna for more than thirty years, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club there. He was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Army, and served in General Patton’s 3rd Army in Germany and France. Bob even saw action at the Battle of the Bulge. He was currently a member of Kaukauna’s American Legion Post #41, which will provide military memorial honors at the funeral service. He will be remembered by all as a dedicated husband and father who enjoyed time spent outdoors hunting and fishing.
Bob is survived by his wife of sixty years: Mildred Hostettler of Kaukauna; two sons: Gary (Helen) Hostettler of Menasha and James Hostettler of Kaukauna and his special friend Lori; a daughter: Karen (Tony) Schuh of Appleton; three grandchildren: Paula (Bill) Heckert, Diane Schuh and her special friend Rob, and Mark Schuh; four great-grandchildren: Michael and Kimberly Brochtrup and Alan and Amanda Heckert; a sister: Ruth Wagner of Racine; two step-sisters: Alice Heller and Eunice Birkoltz both of Chilton; and two brothers-in-law: Melvin Halbach of New Holstein and Ed Ruffing of Stockbridge. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Mary Funk, sisters Martha Hostettler, Esther Halbach, and Dorothy (John) Hermans brothers Clarence (Bernice) Hostettler and Conrad (Inez) Hostettler, and a step-sister Delphine Ruffing.
The funeral liturgy for Bob will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2002 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch, OFM officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and again at the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center for the love, care, and home they had given to Bob, as well as to his many friends there. Thanks also to the special people at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and to Dr. Brian Scott and staff. You will never be forgotten.
