Bob Aggson, age of 87 of Appleton, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, March 16, 2023. Bob was born in Iowa on January 31, 1936. He was a faithful Christian who loved America. As a young man, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. About this time, he married his first wife Helen and together they raised five children. Over the years, Bob managed several retail stores in Colorado and Wyoming. After fifty-two years of marriage Helen passed away. Later he met and married Marilyn Sobieski, and together they enjoyed fifteen lovely years. They traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, and San Diego, but especially enjoyed making trips back home to Iowa and Wisconsin.
Bob loved to play dominos and cards (especially Canadian Rummy) with relatives and friends. Many of those family and friends also enjoyed his cooking abilities. He was an avid television watcher and was often seen with the remote control glued to his hand. He enjoyed children and dogs and will be missed by his Cali Jo. Bob also loved fishing, hunting, old barns and the beauty and song of cardinals.
Bob is survived by his loving wife: Marilyn; three children: Michael Aggson, John (Shelly) Aggson, and Shannon (John) Stanko. His grandchildren include Nicole (Matt), Tiffany, Jennifer (Marco), Jacob (Amy), Jessica (Michael), Caynen (Rebecca), Nate (Marissa), Ali, Zachary (Amanda), Ben, Harlee Rae as well as thirteen great-grandchildren. There are also five step-grandchildren Rian, Jaxon, Linzey, Sam, and Anna. He also leaves behind Marilyn’s daughters: Chris Setser and Julia Nelson and Marilyn's siblings: Richard (Donna) Sobieski, Tom (Theresa) Sobieski, Carol (Robert) Miller-Bantom, John (Cheryl) Sobieski, Susan (Bob) Tracy, and Jean Sobieski, a sister-in-law Diane (Steve) Sobieski; and a very dear friend Sandy Aggson.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen, sons Robert Aggson and Dean Aggson, and a very special cousin and friend Danny Aggson, a stepdaughter Pam, a brother-in-law Steve Sobieski, pre-teen sister-in-law Diane Sobieski, and infant brother-in-law Robert Sobieski.
Bob will always be remembered for being a tender hearted, ambitious, thoughtful, and generous man who was long admired for his quiet strength and humor.
A memorial service for Bob will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 5:00 PM at the Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street, with Rev. Aaron Rosenau of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until the time of service. He will be cremated and placed at rest near his first wife in Pueblo, Colorado.
Bob’s final wishes were to be able to slip away at home. The help of his primary care giver and Marilyn’s sister Jean made that possible. Jean has been at Bob’s side, caring for him day and night, carrying out tasks in a manner that only she could. All of her love, care, and compassion will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to ThedaCare at Home Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
