Rita J. Peters, 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. She was born March 28, 1930, in Little Chute, the daughter of Melvin and Mary Ann (Janssen) Rettler. Rita was a loving mom, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will always be remembered for her outgoing and friendly nature.
Rita is survived by her 4 children: Victoria Nichols, Bruce (Patti) Zuleger, Rick Peters, and Kelly (Robert) Smeltzer; 6 grandchildren: Trevor Nichols, Garrett (Lynn) Zuleger, Blake (Jenette) Zuleger, Rick Peters Jr., Chloe Smeltzer and Naomi Smeltzer; a great granddaughter: Riley Zuleger; a brother: Dan (Maija) Rettler a sister-in-law: Carol Rettler; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Her parents; and 2 brothers preceded Rita in death: Marvin (Diane) Rettler and Norman (Carol) Rettler.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Rita asked that in remembrance of her, friends and family consider donating blood.. “It would mean so much to me and even more perhaps to the people you don’t know,” she said.
“To my friends, family, and to those who played an important part in my life: If you are reading this, it means I have moved on and time to say ‘Adios!’ My glass was almost always half full (and not always with beer). The laughter and the memories I had were rich and wonderful.” Rita
