Richard “Dick” Sauer entered Cherry Meadow Hospice on Wednesday, August 2 and four days later, Sunday, August 6, entered the gates of Heaven to be greeted with open arms by his mother Josephine and father Adolph Sauer and beloved wife Patty. Dick was born April 6, 1940, and grew up on a farm on Fairview Road in Neenah. In 1963 he married his first wife Patricia Parker Hren and acquired not only a beautiful wife but two wonderful stepsons Larry and Marty. Dick and Patty then had two children of their own Lisa and Rick. They spent 23 happy years together before Patty’s passing in 1985. Dick then met and married the second love of his life, Gwynne Vils and added two more stepchildren, Scott and Vicki to the family. Dick and Gwynne were able to spend thirty-three wonderful years together before his passing.
In his younger years, Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing, with duck hunting being his favorite. He was also a very artistic and creative man and loved to paint, do crafts and woodworking. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida for over 15 years.
Survivors include his wife Gwynne his children Lisa (Chris) Schrader, Rick (Shelly) Sauer, stepchildren Larry (Kay) Hren, Marty (Doris) Hren, Scott (Kristy) Vander Heiden, Vicki (Pete) Zipperer. Grandchildren Zach (Kimberly) Schrader, Patricia Schrader, Terrick (Marissa) Sauer, Maddison Sauer and fiancé Alex, Autumn Sauer, Carsen and Clair Zipperer, Joshua and Abigail Vander Heiden, Laramie (Lucas) Severson, Allie Hren, Parker Hren, Carley (Arthur) Stewart, a sister Lorrie Olson and three great grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Josephine and Adolph Sauer, his wife Patricia, his brothers Jim and Tom and brother-in-law Sam Olson.
The Memorial Service for Dick will be held Saturday, August 19 at 11:00 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2330 E. Calumet St, Appleton with visitation from 9:00 until the time of service.
