Richard Paul Van De Weghe was called to the arms of his Lord on Thursday, March 18th, 2021, at the age of 65. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family, following a heart illness. Rich was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on January 9, 1956 to the late Richard Charles Van De Weghe and his wife, the late Jaqueline (nee Taylor).
Rich grew up in Appleton prior to receiving a Master’s degree in Engineering Mechanics from UW-Madison. He went on to enjoy a career as an engineer working with McDonnell Douglas, Trane, Kohler Company, GE Healthcare and Leonardo DRS, developing and analyzing everything from small engines to CT machines. He was a technical leader who especially enjoyed mentoring others.
Rich was a faithful believer. He led his family in their understanding of Scripture through home Bible studies, thoughtful conversation and his steadfast trust in the Lord. Rich had a servant’s heart, sharing genuine interest, empathy and care with everyone he came in contact with.
Rich was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather who brought boundless energy, joy and fun to his family. Rich is survived by his wife Pauline (nee Anderson), his children Sarah (Christopher) Van Dyke, Andrew (Rebecca) Van De Weghe, Mary (Joshua) Johnston, Mark (Susan) Van De Weghe, and Grace (Beau) Stafford, and his grandchildren Katherine, Caleb, Jacqueline, Elijah, Daniel, Jax, Ingrid and Griffin. He is also survived by his siblings: Kristine (Kirk) Schutte, Janis (Thomas) Strange, Charles (Debra) Van De Weghe, Nancy Van De Weghe, and Thomas (Monique) Van De Weghe.
An intimate funeral for family will be held at Wichmann Funeral Home, officiated by Mr. Daniel Povolny from The Lutheran Fellowship. Rich’s earthly body will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetary.
