Richard "Dick" Maigatter

May 29, 1940 — November 14, 2024

Appleton

Richard “Dick” E. Maigatter, age 84, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at his home in Appleton. After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, with a positive attitude, he was ready to be with Jesus in his heavenly home. Dick was born on May 29, 1940 in Two Rivers WI, the son of Charles and Luella (Laurent) Maigatter. He married his high school sweetheart, Jean Piepenburg in July of 1960 and they shared 64 wonderful years together.

Dick spent his career working in information technology as a computer programmer and an IT manager. He worked with computers starting in the early 1960’s before most people even heard of them. Dick & Jean co-owned Country Campsites in Shawano, WI where they created many wonderful memories and met many people, some becoming lifelong friends. In their younger years, they enjoyed family trips to amusement parks, Florida, and to the East coast. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling to many places, including Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico. They were also snowbirds to Arizona for more than 20 years where they enjoyed the sunshine and friendships that were made. Dick will be remembered for his sense of humor, storytelling, jokes, and his love for his family. He always said how blessed he was to have such an amazing family. Dick enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, playing ping pong, collecting items for his Christmas Village, and cheering on the Packers. Dick spent many years looking for his long-lost brother. It was bittersweet to find him since he wasn’t able to get to know him as he had already passed.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Jean; his daughters, Tammy (Tom) Rogers, Appleton, Terri (Kevin) Johnson, Combined Locks, and Lorie (Joe) Peterson, Suamico; his grandchildren, Travis (Erin) Rogers, Tera (Trevor) Lind, Amanda Davis, Joshua Johnson, Liz (David) Donze, and Justin (Ashley) Peterson; 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Allan Maigatter and Bob (Linda) Maigatter; his siblings-in-law, Neal Rezachek, Donald DeBauche, and Cindy DeBauche; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William; his parents-in-law; and several siblings-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held at Appleton Alliance Church, 2693 Grand Chute Blvd, Appleton, WI 54913 at 11:00 am on Monday, November 18 with Pastor Dennis Episcopo officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 - 11am. Dick will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations gifted to the family will be given to the Hope Clinic and Care Center in Menasha.

The family would like to thank ThedaCare Cancer Center and Hospice team and Alliance Church for their care and support.
