Age 87, passed away at Parkside Care Center on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. He was born in Kaukauna on January 12, 1921, the son of the late John and Adeline (Sturm) Hoolihan. Dick graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1938. He then learned the masonry trade. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served overseas during WWII as a Chief Petty Officer on the U.S.S. Meriweather. On September 24, 1946 he married Mary Jo Wydeven in Kimberly. Dick was the proud owner of Hoolihan's Quality Footwear in Kimberly for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus, the Kimberly School Board, was a trustee for the Kimberly Village Board, a member of the Board of Directors at the Kimberly State Bank, and a member of the William Verhagen Post of the American Legion Post #60, Kimberly. He was particularly proud of building and maintaining his home. He enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events.
Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jo; children: Dan (fiancé, Marianne) Hoolihan of Minneapolis, MN, Kathy (Don) Keddell of Menasha; grandchildren: Sam, Mike and Nick Hoolihan, all of Minneapolis, MN, and Molly (Curtis) Maurer of Neenah; step-grandson, Kyle Keddell of Appleton; and brothers and sisters-in-law. He is preceded in death by sisters: Marian Fransway and Madge Trittin; and brother, Art Hoolihan.
The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008 at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH, Kimberly Campus, 600 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, with Rev. David Beaudry officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, February 28, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Please join us immediately following the Mass for a military honor service. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Parkside Care Center for their professional and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Dick's name is being established.
Dick will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, friendliness and authentic kindness.
