Dick was born in Escanaba, MI on October 29, 1938, to Arnold and Audrey (LaRue) Hansen. He was raised in Neenah and Fond du Lac, WI, and graduated from Goodrich High School. In 1960 he married Louise (Lou) Guell in Fond du Lac, WI, where they resided for four years before moving to Appleton. They raised three children and were married for 62 years. Dick was employed by various businesses short term before he found his long-term career on the railroad, serving as a fireman, and ultimately, an engineer for almost 40 years. He retired in 2000 and was employed part-time by Kwik Trip and then Fleet Farm.
Over the years Dick enjoyed coin collecting, photography, model airplanes, indoor archery leagues, vegetable gardening, riding motorcycles, metal detecting, bird watching and country music. Later in life Dick and his wife, Lou, enjoyed playing golf and traveling to Branson, Missouri and Bella Vista, Arkansas, frequently joined by family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife; Louise, his children; Lori, Todd (significant other, Diana), Julie (Keith) Moser and his grandchildren; Kailey and Landon, his siblings; Sharon Deitte, Dennis, and Greg, and sister-in-law; Barb Brown. He will be greatly missed by all and his beloved cat, Rosco.
Preceding Dick in his death were his parents and parents-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and an infant child. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri-County Chapel, 1592 S. Oneida St., Menasha, WI 54952 from 1-2:30 PM followed by the service. Inurnment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton at a later date.
In place of flowers, memorials gifted to Dick’s family will be donated to several of his favorite charities.
