Age 61, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield, WI as the result of multiple injuries sustained in an auto accident on December 6, 2005. He was born on July 29, 1944 and Baptized on August 8, 1944, the son of the late Alphonse H. and Marcella C. (Helser) Recker. He was Confirmed into his faith on April 10, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church of Appleton. He graduated from Appleton High School (Class of 1963), and served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He was employed by Fox River Paper Company from 1965 until his retirement in 1993. On February 14, 2003, he married Geraldine A. (Bestul) Oligney, who was killed in the accident of December 6th.

Richard was a resident of Appleton until 1994, when he moved to the Town of Harrison (North of Iola), Waupaca County, WI. His home on property along the Little Wolf River was his pride and joy, and he was continuously making improvements and additions. He was a Golden Eagle Life-member of the N.R.A., and enjoyed reloading and target shooting. He especially enjoyed his ATV and “hog” (moped), as well as helping family, neighbors and friends with building and carpentry projects.

Richard is survived by one sister, Diane A. (Jerome) Trendel, Iola, two brothers, James G. and David R. (Crystal) Recker, Appleton; three sisters-in-law, Audry (Donald), Marjorie (Robert) and Myra (Roland) Recker, as well as 15 nieces and nephews; Belinda (Ron) Beschta, Randy (Pam) Recker, Debbie (Gary) Peterson, Luanne (John) Gilmore, Daryl (Nancy) Recker, Linda (Marvin) Thiel, Scott (Lynn) Recker, Angela Farrier, Mark Recker, Cheryl Recker, Paul Recker, John (Barbara) Recker, Timothy (Kris) Mielke, Christine (Robert) Piso and Thomas Recker; and one Aunt, Luella L. Van Ooyen. He is further survived by special friends Evangeline Gill, James & Marie Filen and Dana Hansen; and by special neighbors Chris & Linda Liebenthal, Shawn Newton & Lisa Bey and Charlotte & Don Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gerry, four brothers, Donald C., Robert L., Roland L., and Ralph H.; one sister, Barbara A. and a brother-in-law, James C. Mielke.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton, with Rev. Leon Knitt officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Northland Lutheran Cemetery, Northland, WI, next to his beloved wife.
