Age 71 died unexpectedly on Friday September 14, 2001 at Appleton Medical Center.
Richard was born on September 3, 1930 the son of the late August and Dorothy (Foster) Haas in LaCrosse, WI. Richard graduated UW-Milwaukee in 1953 with a Bachelors degree in Special Education. After graduating from college, Richard enlisted into the Army and was stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1955. Richard attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN graduating in 1958 with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Richard married Barbara Reeder on June 4, 1960 and they enjoyed 41 wonderful years together. Richard was employed by the Appleton Area School District for 39 years. The first 10 years as a teacher and the remaining 29 years as Principal of Huntley Elementary School.
Richards life of service and teaching continued into his retirement with his volunteer work for Appleton Medical Center, Outagamie County Historical Society and Golden “K” Kiwanis. Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose passions for teaching, gardening, camping and family will always be remembered.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Stephen (Colleen) Haas and David (Lorie Endter) Haas; one daughter, Katie (Bradley) Zoelk; four grandchildren, Kyle Haas, Cailin Haas, Paige Zoelk and Drew Zoelk; and one brother-in-law, Stephen Reeder.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (209 South Allen Street) with Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday, September 17 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund is being established.
The family gratefully acknowledges all the efforts of the staff and friends at Appleton Medical Center.
