Age 77, was called home to the Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 7, 2005. Richard was born October 17, 1927, the son of the late Wilfred and Alice (Schafelke) Becker. As a young man, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps, and was stationed in Hawaii for a time. On October 3, 1953, he married the former Elaine Plamann at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Freedom; she survives. For over thirty years, Richard was employed by Miller Electric in Appleton, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching birds, and spending time at the cottage on Roberts Lake. He always looked forward to traveling to visit his many family members and friends.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years: Elaine Becker of Appleton; five children: Doug (Pat) Becker of Hortonville; Steve Becker of Appleton and his daughters Jenny and Chrissy; Diane (Mike) Moseng of Appleton and their sons Shane and Kyle; Bob Becker of Appleton; and Lori (Jim) Schmidt of Appleton; two sisters: Joann Barkholtz of Winchester and Mary (John) Carnot of Crivitz; three brothers: Don Becker of Arizona; Gary (Janet) Becker of Arizona; and John Becker of Appleton; a brother-in-law: Fred (Arlyne) Plamann of Appleton; a sister-in-law: Gloria (Herb) Breitenbach of New London. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson Rick Becker in 1982, a sister-in-law Karen Becker and a brother-in-law Ralph Barkholtz.
Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 North Oneida Street in Appleton with Rev. Wendy Wirth-Brock officiating. Interment will be in Community Lutheran Cemetery, Freedom. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of Richard’s physicians and nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and especially to the staff of Franciscan Care Center. You are all such special people – the many things you did for us and for Richard will never be forgotten.
