Richard A. Robel

October 2, 1932 — May 5, 2001

Age 68, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Richard was born in Kaukauna on October 2, 1932, son of the late Paul and Catherine (Driessen) Robel. He faithfully served his country from 1953 to 1955 as a member of the United States Army and was a member of the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 of the American Legion and Kaukauna Post #41. On August 8, 1959, he married the former Barbara Leider in Milwaukee; she survives. Many will remember Richard for operating the Park Standard Service Station from 1965 to 1981. In 1984, he began working at Miller Electric, first as a security guard, and later as a spot welder, a job he greatly enjoyed because of the many friendships he developed there. Ill health forced his retirement in 1997. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with Ollie and Florence at their cottage near Woodruff, and for a time was a member of the E.A.A. He also treasured his many cats, and Bo, the dog.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara Robel of Kaukauna; two daughters: Jean (Tony) Betters of Kimberly and Janet (John) Dercks of Kaukauna; a son: Tom Robel of Kaukauna; four grandchildren: Jonathon and Amie Betters and Jeremy and Jenna Dercks; two brothers: Robert (Ceal) Robel of Fulton, Texas and Kenneth (Jo Ann) Robel of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law: John DeGoey of Kaukauna; a sister-in-law: Eileen Becker of Milwaukee. Richard is further survived by his longtime and dear friends Paul Koch of Kaukauna, Bev and Gene Ehrlich of Wausaukee, Beverly and John Dunn of Martin, Tennessee, Don and Joan Moder of Appleton, and Frank Jennings of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and his many former co-workers from Miller Electric. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Ann Betters, sisters Martha (Charles) Schell, Virginia (Oscar ‘Tex’) Patschke, and Ethel DeGoey, and by a brother-in-law George Becker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at TRINITY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 804 Grignon Street in Kaukauna with Rev. Ronald Raddatz officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.

In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also. -John 14:2-3.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
