Reginald William Ahrens, age 97, of Kimberly, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, at Gardens of Fountain Way.
Reggie was born March 7, 1927, to William and Gladys (Mereness) Ahrens in Appleton. Shortly after graduating from High School, Reggie enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served during WWII and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal, American Area Medal, and the Victory Medal, before being honorably discharged in 1947. After returning home, Reggie married the love of his life, Ella Ermers, in a ceremony at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. They shared 63 years of marriage before Ella passed in 2011.
Reggie enjoyed his work in the boiler house at Mid-Tech Paper Corporation, retiring after 42 years. Reggie also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and games, and biking. He volunteered at Holy Spirit Parish and liked painting houses and installing floors. Being a die-hard Packers fan, he liked to talk about the fact that he attended the Ice Bowl. Reggie also followed his Chicago Cubs.
Reggie is survived by his son: Steve (Dawn) Ahrens; great grandson: Emery Ahrens; special friend: Marlyn Bergholz; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years: Ella; granddaughter: Stephanie Ahrens; parents: William and Gladys Ahrens; twin sister: Rosemary; sisters: Marjorie Volkman and Carol Brew; stepmother: Cora Ahrens; and stepbrother: Ralph Ahrens.
The funeral service for Reggie will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at noon, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME (537 N. Superior St, Appleton). Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service.
Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donation to Boys Town, the American Legion Post #60, or Holy Spirit Parishes are appreciated.
Reggie’s family would like to thank the amazing staff at Gardens of Fountain Way for their loving care, and Holy Spirit Parish for their continued prayers.
