Age 76, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. Gene was born on August 3, 1925, in Kaukauna to the late Bernard and Mary (Veau) Vande Hei. She married Norman Ellefson on March 21, 1943, in Kaukauna. With her husband, Gene owned and operated Appleton Camera Supply from 1946 to 1955. It was Gene’s specialty to produce oil-colored, hand painted photos. She also owned and operated Reggie’s Restaurant in Little Chute with her husband. Gene was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Appleton. Survivors include her husband of 58 years; her daughters, Sharon (Richard) Joachim, Neenah; Noreen (Ted) Jancieski, Seymour; and Dawn (Danny) Vollbrecht, Hortonville; her sisters, Helen (John) Siroin, Lac du Flambeau; Delores (Robert) McCabe, DePere; and Val Pytel, Madison; her brother David Vande Hei, Green Bay; her grandchildren, Vicki (Jeff) Ashley; Ricki Joachim; Stacey (Dan) Radue; and Timothy Joachim; her seven great grandchildren, Beth, Chris, Amber, Tanner, Alissa, Derrick and Carley. She was preceded in death by her twin daughters, LaVonne and LaVerne; her sister, Inez Hostettler, and her brother Myron Vande Hei. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2001, at EMMANUEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 740 East College Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. David Kalas and Rev. Lynn Kollath officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again directly at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established in her name.
