Raymond Menting, Jr.

Raymond Richard Menting, Jr. was born at home on May 26, 1937 and died at home on March 5, 2023.

For his entire life, he lived in Kaukauna, Combined Locks, Darboy or Kimberly.  Ray was married to his high school sweetheart, Jane, for 65 years and had 7 children, many of whom remain in the area.  Ray worked at Consolidated Papers and Central Products contributing well over 4 decades to the paper industry.  He also held odd jobs throughout his adulthood in an effort to support his family.  His greatest work for his family wasn’t a salaried job however, it was farming. Together with Jane, using 3 acres of land in Darboy, they fed their large family throughout the year with home grown meat, eggs, and produce.  Ray and Jane were successful at instilling in their seven kids a love for gardening and the excitement of each vegetable’s first harvest.

Ray was also defined by his devotion and love for family.  He welcomed all of the children fostered by his daughter, Sue, with love and acceptance.  He was a hardworking, generous man who blessed his parents, siblings, wife, children, neighbors, and local wild animals in innumerable ways.  He donated surplus produce from his garden to St. Joseph’s Food Program.  He was a coin collector with an impressive collection of pennies dating back many decades.  He was a longstanding member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks serving as altar boy in his youth.  Ray will be missed most for his generosity with his time and talents.

Ray is survived by his wife, Jane (nee Weyenberg); children, Sue and Harry Kratz, Sandra and Tony McCarty, Dorothy and Bob Koenig, Gail and Ivan Chavez, Patsy and Guy Swick, Tony and Stacy Menting, and Rick and Gina Menting; grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Billy, Adam, Kevin, Erik, Tyler, Suzy, Kristyne, Steve, Helen, Scott, Michelle, TJ, Dylan, Jacob, Grace, Dominic, Spencer, Calista, Zeke, Owen, Lola, Hilary, Stella, Mae, Eli, Adam, Alex, Carmen, Carlos, Maia, Spencer, Morgan, Emily, Sophie, Raymond, Simon and Josie; 22 great grandchildren; his loving and supportive sister, Karen Vandenberg; and Jane’s siblings, Kathy Peterson, Julie Verstegen, Rose Hietpas, and Betty Mischler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Menting; brothers, John, James and Michael Menting; sister, Marjorie Peerenboom; twin grandsons, Marcus and Maxwell Menting; adoring daughter-in-law, Gidget Menting; beloved niece, Amy Merckx; Jane’s siblings, Ramona Stark, Diane Rohan, Alice Coenen, Robert Weyenberg, Lee Weyenberg and Carol Weyenberg.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Raymond at 12 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace St., Combined Locks, WI 54113. Family and friends may visit at the church from 11 AM to the time of the mass. Interment will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Combined Locks.
