Age 84, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Brewster Village. Ray was born in Freedom on October 24, 1917, son of the late Henry G. and Wilhelmina (Weyers) Verhagen. In his younger years, he was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper in Kaukauna.
Ray is survived by three brothers: Rich (Monnie) Verhagen of Kaukauna, Ves (Min) Verhagen of Kimberly, and Fr. Norbert Verhagen of Los Altos, California; two sisters: Agatha Nussbaum of Kaukauna and Millie (Ervin) DeBruin of Kimberly; two sisters-in-law: Gladys Verhagen and Marge Verhagen, both of Kaukauna. Ray is further survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers Ed (Rose) Verhagen, Lloyd (Doris) Verhagen, Larry Verhagen, Ben Verhagen, Fr. Donald Verhagen, and an infant brother Francis; by sisters Ceil (Norb) Meulemans and Martha (Ignatius) Schuh; and by a brother-in-law Ray Nussbaum.
The funeral liturgy for Ray will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the liturgy.
Ray will be remembered as a hard-working, deeply religious, and prayerful man, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
