Age 53, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at his home. Ray was born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin on October 13, 1947, son of Elroy and Joyce (Peters) Hardtke of Yuma, Arizona. On December 12, 1970, Ray married the former Arlene Hardtke in Kewaunee; she survives. He was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Army, and for the past thirty years had been employed by Kaukauna Utilities.

Ray was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper, but the greatest joys in his life came from spending time with his family, especially his four grandbabies. He is survived by his parents: Elroy and Joyce Hardtke of Yuma, Arizona; his wife: Arlene Hardtke of Kaukauna; two daughters: Shelly (Stephen) Hopfensperger of Kaukauna and Stacey (Greg) Rose of Shiocton; four granddaughters: Erin, Tara, and Amy Hopfensperger and Cloie Rose; a brother: Tim Hardtke of Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin; two sisters: Jill (Dennis) Clark and Jan (Mike) DeBruin, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a sister-in-law: Marie (Norbert) Gaedtke of Kewaunee; three brothers-in-law: Dave (Cynthia) Hardtke, Bill (Doris) Hardtke, and Robert Hardtke, all of Kewaunee. Ray is further survived by dear family friends Tony and Carole Frank and Jim and Florence Balck, as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Arnie Hardtke, by Arlene’s parents Melvin and Eleanor Hardtke, by his maternal grandparents Clarence and Selma Peters, and by his paternal grandparents Louis and Clara Hardtke.

Funeral services for Ray will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at TRINITY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 804 Grignon Street in Kaukauna, with Rev. Ronald Raddatz officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8 PM Friday at the funeral home and again at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the hour of the services.
