Age 67, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Appleton Medical Center. Ralph was born in Appleton on March 20, 1937, son of the late Henry and Christiana (Hoeft) Goerl. After graduating from Appleton High School, he joined the United States Air Force and worked as a mechanic from 1955 to 1958. On December 27, 1955, he married the former Sharon Limberg; she preceded him in death in 2001. Ralph was an over the road truck driver, and eventually started his own company, R & S Trucking. Later he become a baker, and retired from the Piggly Wiggly bakery in Kaukauna in 2000. Ralph enjoyed fishing and hunting, travel, visits to the casino, NASCAR racing, and was a true Packer fan. Most of all, though, he loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed going overboard for them in every possible way.
Ralph is survived by six children: Gina (Roger) Wiste of Ninilchik, Alaska; Brett (Tammy Gardner) Goerl of Hortonville; Bart (Pamela) Goerl of Freedom; Ginger (Thomas) Tralongo of Appleton; Blaine (Pam) Goerl of Darboy; and Gemie (Michael) Kohler of Burnsville, Minnesota; seventeen grandchildren: Liberty, Brody, and Kyle Hietpas; Sadie and Steavie Goerl; Joel, Jesse, and Julie Goerl; Mariah and Sam Tralongo; Michael, Crystal, Tina, Brittany, and Carissa Goerl; Abigayle and Emily Kohler; two great-grandsons: Skyler Goerl and Austin Coulthard; a brother: Gaylord (Elaine) Goerl of Appleton; a sister-in-law: Ceil Goerl of Appleton; as well as by his dear friend Ann. Ralph has many good friends, and special among them are Carol and Mark Van Vreede, Fred and Rita Kramer, Bob and Shar Shar Wierschke, Dave Hermsen, and Roger Regeth, Sr. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon in 2001, a brother Roger Goerl, and a sister Virginia (Jim) Pulling.
The family would like you to join them in celebrating Ralph’s life from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at the COMBINED LOCKS CIVIC CENTER, 405 Wallace Street in Combined Locks. It was Ralph’s wish to be cremated and have his remains taken to Alaska where he can join his beloved Sharon and soar with the eagles.
