Neenah – Rachel D. Johnson, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at Alten Haus Assisted Living, Neenah. She was born on March 27, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama the daughter of Allen and Vinie (Adams) Johnson. Rachel grew up in Mobile and moved to Chicago at the age of 7. Rachel started her professional career as a file clerk at the Velsicol Chemical Corporation in 1972, working her way up to a Senior Logistics Production Planner at BASF in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. After 30 years of service, Rachel retired and moved to Wisconsin to become a fulltime grandmother. In her travels, she always maintained an affinity for her birthplace, Mobile Alabama, heavily favoring pecans (sent from her aunt’s pecan trees) as well as drinking tons of Coca-Cola. Rachel will be remembered as a quiet, reserved, introvert, with a strong work ethic. Rachel’s free time was spent playing video games and watching old movie classics. Rachel is also known to be an avid sports fan (baseball, football, and golf); especially when it comes to the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. An avid reader, History, John Grisham and Spencer for Hire books were a mainstay at her bedside. Rachel is remembered for her constant smile and infectious laughter. Rachel was a very kind person and won over the hearts of everyone she encountered.
Rachel is survived by her son: Anthony (Brandi Cavegn) Arrington; 2 granddaughters: Madeline and Carlie Arrington; Jerrod Johnson (Nephew), O’Neal Stallworth Porter (Cousin), other extended family members in Austin Texas, Chicago Illinois and Indianapolis Indiana; in addition to a multitude of friends around the country.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Jerry Johnson.
An informal sharing of memories for Rachel will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of sharing.
