Philip E. Nigl

April 4, 1959 — March 6, 2005

Age 45, died unexpectedly, early Sunday morning, March 6, 2005. Philip was born in Kaukauna, the son of Marcus G. and Elizabeth A. Nigl. He attended Holy Cross Catholic School and Kaukauna High School. In his younger years, Phil treasured the company of and the time spent with his godfather, Uncle Ed Nigl. Shortly after high school, he helped his grandmother move to Jensen Beach, Florida, an area he grew to enjoy. Phil built a house in Port St. Lucie and lived there for over twenty years. He first worked in the construction trades, and later took a job with Marriott. Phil was a skilled woodworker and also enjoyed handy work. It was not unusual for his neighbors to be waiting for him to come home from work and ask him to repair an appliance or help with some type of maintenance work. He always obliged, and enjoyed the apple pies that the ladies of the neighborhood would “pay” him with. While with Marriott, his work kept him within the State of Florida. A few years ago, Philip purchased his own semi tractor and began an over-the-road driving career. Currently he was contracted with Schneider Trucking, and delivered loads all over the country and to each state except Hawaii and Alaska. Philip’s constant companion was his German Shepherd, Sassy. Sassy traveled well over a half a million miles in the truck with Phil, before she had to “retire.” In 2003, Phil relocated to Wisconsin to be near his parents.

He is survived by his parents: Marc and Betty Nigl of Kaukauna; three sisters: Claire (husband Bruce died in November, 2004) Whelan of Minneapolis, Mary (John) Pertzborn of Belleville, Illinois and their son Nicholas, and Kate (Pat Askew) Nigl of St. Louis, Missouri. Phil is also survived by a favorite relative, Helen Mullen.

The memorial funeral liturgy for Phil will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.
