COX, PERCIVAL J.
Percy Cox, of Menasha, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, age 89, passed away on August 8, 2008. He was born on January 18, 1919 in Calumet Township, MI, the son of the late William (Lucille) Cox. On June 23, 1945, he married Iola Warren in Milwaukee. They were married 61 years.
He graduated from high school at age 16 and from Michigan Technological University at age 20 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He followed that with an M.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1942 and an M.B.A. from UW-Oshkosh in 1976. He worked for 31 years at Consolidated Papers, Wis. Rapids, retiring in 1984.
Percy was active in Kiwanis, Masons – attained 32nd degree, Shriners, Funsters and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed serving small local churches as a Lay Minister for many years. He was an active and giving member of the United Methodist Church while serving in many functions along side his wife.
Many will remember him as a Funster Clown marching in numerous parades. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling. His love for family, reading, learning and his faith were the focal points of his life.
He is survived by his daughters: Sandy Mader and Shari Hendrickson, both of Menasha; grandchildren: Kristy (Mike) Ashman and Ben Mader and special friend Traci Price; great grandchildren: Courtney and Carissa Ashman; brother and sister-in-law: Bill (Doris) Cox, Jr., Harbor Springs, MI; a sister-in-law, Nina Cox, Upper Michigan; and a niece and nephews.
Percy was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother and sister-in law, Robert (Luella) Cox. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Fortice and Norah Warren, who loved him as a son.
The Masonic service for Percy will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, August 11, 2008, at UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 441 Garfield St., Wis. Rapids. This service is open to the public. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 12:30 am until the time of the service which will be held at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for the Lutheran Social Services Elder Match Program or the Theda-Care Hospice Program.
