Age 92, passed away in Appleton on Tuesday, January 13, 2004. Pearl was born in Appleton on January 20, 1911, daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Bernetzke) Rohm. She married Erwin Kollath in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1975. Pearl was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Her chosen profession was teaching. It was a profession she dearly loved and she taught for 44 years. She had been a principal at Badger School and retired from Johnson School in Appleton. After retirement she spent time traveling in Europe, Africa, and Australia, as well as enjoying her grandchildren. Pearl always had a great sense of humor, and a zest for life that was a joy to her family. She gave freely of her time and talents wherever they were needed. Pearl enjoyed sewing, gardening, collecting, and her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “Gummy.” She will be deeply missed by her family.
Pearl is survived by two children: Richard R. (Cindy) Kollath of Appleton and Barbara “BK” Wetzel Huss (Jim) of Appleton; three grandchildren: Kelly Kollath (fiancé, Ike) of Appleton, Wendy Wetzel Carter (Rick) of Georgia, and Stacy Wetzel of Georgia; her great grandchildren; Mariah Wetzel and Ryan Carter who will sadly miss her; step grandchildren: Lisa (Bruce) Van Schyndel and Shelly (Mike) Hokenstad; and step great grandchildren: Jeremy, Adam, and Mandy Van Schyndel and Michael and Camryn Hokenstad. Her grandson Eric Kollath preceded her in death.
Pearl came from a family of 12 children. She is preceded in death by her brothers: Elmer, Ralph, Gordon and Watson Rohm; and her sisters: Hazel Bungert, Lucille Buelow, Stella Kuckenbecker, Mabelle Schommer, Gertrude Heinrich, Myrtle Buettner and Gladys Woelz.
The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton, with Rev. Lynn Kollath officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Century Oaks for their compassionate care of Pearl.
Memorials will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.
