Age 90, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Franciscan Care Center. He was born on April 22, 1911 in Brandon, WI the son of the late Carl and Martha (Schade) Zimmerman. He served his country in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of the Harvey Pierre Post 2778 of the VFW, the Menasha Senior Center, and a longtime faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Sarah “Sally” (Lietz) Zimmerman of Appleton; his step children: Jerelyn “Jeri” (Ronald) Kositzke and their children Scott and Bonnie all of Appleton; Judith Ziebell and her children Rick (Lucy) Melchert of Appleton, Michael Melchert of Freedom, Tara (Ken) Ebben of Shiocton, and Thomas Melchert of Clintonville; Vicki (Guy) Martinek and their children Brandon who is serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan, and Anneli Martinek of Appleton; and great and great great grandchildren. Paul is also survived by his two brothers Donald (Gloria) Zimmerman of Fisk, WI, and Ralph Zimmerman of Appleton; his sister Sally (Jim) Lapine of Fond du Lac; his godson William Paul “Billy” (Mary) Schneider of Fond du Lac. He is also survived by step-children Jackie Mackinnis, Linda Schlichting, Gail Robinson, Glenn Flanigan, Jim Flanigan, and Nancy Ross.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Charles, William, and George Zimmerman; and his sisters Lucille and Emily Schneider; his son-in-law Kenneth Ziebell, and his stepson Claude Richard Flanigan.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at 4:00 PM At St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 302 North Morrison Street with the Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
