Paul James Siket of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on December 19, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Paul was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, on August 5, 1945.
Excelling at sports, he was an all-state quarterback in high school. In the words of his brother, Tom: “He never bragged about his accomplishments. Paul was an Eagle scout. He always would help with anything whether it was at home or out. For the most part Paul was quiet. Really never saw him lose his temper.”
In 1967, Paul enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served on a transport ship and was honorably discharged in 1970.
Paul worked in finance his whole life. In Pennsylvania, for 30 years, he was the Assistant Controller at the Greif Brothers, a manufacturer of men’s designer suits. After moving to Wisconsin with his wife, Chris, he worked for the Candle Corporation of America until it closed in 2010.
Serving others was important to Paul. During retirement for several years, Paul was the head usher at his church, a volunteer for AARP in its free tax return preparation service, and treasurer of ESTHER of the Fox Valley, the Big Hill’s Lake Management Board, and the CROP Hunger Walk. He wrapped gifts at the mall for Habitat for Humanity, poured beer at Octoberfest, gave blood on a regular basis, and during heavy snowstorms he cleared the snow from an elderly neighbor’s driveway. A friend once said Paul was a shining example to us of how to be of service to others.
He loved to spend the long, hot summers at Chris’s family cottage in Waushara County. He was a lover of the outdoors and the Green Bay Packers. Paul and Chris were avid ballroom dancers. He faithfully helped Chris sort cookbooks for AAUW’s annual book sale. He always helped in some way.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Calhoun, his son, Eric Siket Esby (wife, Jillian, and daughter, India) of Agoura Hills, California; his sister, Kathleen Boback, of Dallas, Pennsylvania; brothers, Thomas Siket of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and Timothy Siket of Ocala, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Veronica, brothers, Andrew Siket, Jr., and James Siket.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 20, 2024, at Wichmann Tri-County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St. Friends may call from 9 to 11, with the service following.
