Paul August Martzahl went to eternal rest somewhat unexpectedly on Wednesday December 27, 2023, while playing cribbage with his grandson Stephen. Wally was born on April 8, 1941, to William and Genevieve (Van Dyke) Martzahl. Paul grew up and attended school in Kaukauna until he joined the Unites States Navy at around the age of 18. He was very proud of his military service and his service on the USS Massey.

During this time, he became an exceptional swimmer and diver which he passed on to all of his children. Watching Dad dive off the high board at the Kaukauna swimming pool was something that made his children very proud. His youngest son, Jason, passed his swimming test at the age of 5.

Returning from the service, he married Sandra Jean Skamusky on April 28, 1962. They raised a family of four children across from the “rifle range” on Highway Z. When it came time to fixing anything around the house his children still remember with laughter how often they heard cries of “where’s my hammer” or “hold that flashlight still.”

Wally loved a good game of cribbage either at Tommy G’s or the Rosehill Tavern. In his later years, he took up golf. If you knew our father, whether good or not so good, you will be sure to have a story to tell about Dad.

Paul worked at Badger Northland in the farm equipment painting department. All of his children remember him coming home with his boots covered in “John Deere Green.” After 30+ years of service there, he moved to Thilmany, and retired at the age of 62.

Paul is survived by his children: Paula (Randy) Ashauer, Bill Martzahl, and Jason (Tina) Martzahl; son in law Darin Worsh; grandchildren: Dana (Jill) Siebers, Stephen Siebers, Will Ashauer, Chris (Kendra) Ashauer, Sarah (Mitch) Schaeuble, Griffin (special friend MJ) Martzahl and Liberty Martzahl. as well as great grandchildren: Reid and Maddie; sisters Anne (Tom) Jansen and Mary Jane Milheiser; good friend Ted Siebers; siblings in law: Robert “Butch” (Dottie) Skamusky, Judy Koch, and Janice Skalmusky as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Paul was preceded in passing by his loving and beautiful wife Sandra and daughter Kim Worsh; siblings: Clara (Clarence) Van Dyke, Mary (Leon) Krueger, Germaine (Howard) McCabe, Jerry Martzahl, John “Jack” (Rita) Martzahl, Gene (Vivian) Martzahl, brothers-in-law Bob Milheiser and Richard Skalmusky.

A funeral liturgy will take place on Tuesday January 2, 2024, at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer St, Kaukauna. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until the start of mass. Military honors will place an exclamation point on the mass and interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Paul’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Compassus Hospice, especially Carrissa, and Maisie; Uncle Butch for his nightly vigils with Dad and Dr Marada for his wonderful care provided.

To all the grandchildren from Paula, Bill, and Jason: Please know how meaningful your help was throughout these last months. Your presence meant the world to Grandpa and the difference you made in his world is invaluable.

Dad, as difficult or trying as you could be sometimes, you will be loved and remembered forever. Hug Mom and Kim for all of us.
