Mr. Paul Frederick Sylvester, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away at age 67 on April 24, 2018 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Born on March 30, 1951 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to the late Charlotte Butler and the late Walter Sylvester, Paul grew up in both Plover and Kimberly.
After graduating from Kimberly High School, Paul attended UW-Green Bay for undergraduate work and UW Oshkosh for graduate school. He was a Credit Union Examiner at the State of Wisconsin for almost 30 years, retiring in 2009.
Paul married Charisse (Tripp) in 1979 and was happily married until his death. He is survived by his wife, his son, Bob (partner J.P. Nichols); daughters, Colleen Detloff and AnnaClaire Sylvester; and brothers, George (Norma) Sylvester, and Don (Catherine Bloomer) Sylvester. He also leaves behind his adored cat, Annie.
In addition to being a news-junkie, Paul loved walking in nature, local music and theatre, reading, and helping where he saw need. He was a member of both the Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Appleton and the White Star Psychic Science Church. He volunteered for the Historic Central Neighborhood Appleton and Gastroparesis Patient Association for Cures and Treatments (G-PACT).
His family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth’s hospital for their efforts to maintain Paul’s health over the last few years (as well as St. Elizabeth’s cafeteria, which became one of his favorite places to eat). Those who wish to may donate in Paul's name to G-PACT.
Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service at the Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2600 Philip Lane, officiated by Rev. Leah Hart-Landsberg, on Saturday, May 5th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
