Age 82, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, March 17, 2006, at Angelus Retirement Community, Waupaca. Oran was born January 3, 1924, in Arab, Alabama, to the late Oran Oswald and Jimmie Lillian (Thompson) Cox. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served courageously in Europe until he was injured in France, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, he married Dorothy Mae Beebe of Benton, Wisconsin on December 27, 1948. Oran attended art school in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from the American Academy of Art, Chicago, Illinois in 1951. After working for Marathon Corporation, Menasha, Wisconsin as a graphic artist and Winnebago Corporation, Neenah, Wisconsin as a sales representative and graphic artist, he and his wife Dorothy founded the well-known and award winning Mastercraft Paper Products, Inc. of Wisconsin in 1954. In 1990, they sold Mastercraft and realized their lifelong dream to travel, visiting Belize, Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii and most of the continental United States, Canada and Mexico. They enjoyed spending winters at their retirement home in Englewood, Florida and summers at their home on Lake Poygan. Oran was an avid sportsman, spending most of his leisure time making fishing lures, fishing, or hunting. He had a particular fondness for musky fishing and telling jokes. Survivors include his children, Linda (Jeffrey) Meidam, Scandinavia, Wisconsin; Dennis Cox, Wasilla, Alaska; and Cindy (Matthew) Coakley, Pittsville, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Melissa, Rebecca and Christina Meidam, and Ian Cox; his brothers, Robert (Mary Nell), Arab, Alabama; Glen (Mildred), Guntersville, Alabama; Max (Peggy), Arab; his sister, Lugene (Bobby) Fears, Houston, Texas; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Berniece (Dean) Beyhl, Moline, Illinois; James (Ann) Beebe, Scales Mound, Illinois; Glen Beebe, Milwaukee; Elva Jane Sincock, Benton, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy on August 31, 2002; his brother, James, and brother-in-law, Stuart Sincock. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Jane Voigts officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. The family would like to thank the staff of Angelus for their loving care and support.
