Olga Maria Wittman “Oma”, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday morning, August 28th, 2024. She was born June 1, 1935, in Regensburg, Germany to Johann M. Stadler and Anna T. Graf.
Olga grew up in Regensburg during World War II and didn’t have the opportunity to graduate high school. Her first job was working at a printer press company at age 20. After getting married in Regensburg, May 11, 1957, she relocated to America and lived in Kaukauna for 5 years and then moved to Appleton.
Olga taught herself how to speak and write English. She also learned how to drive, and eventually got her driver’s license. Her greatest achievement was becoming an American citizen, May 1, 1991.
Olga worked several years as a chef at the Elks Club in Appleton and then twenty years as a housekeeper at Franciscan Care Center, where she retired June 1, 2001.
Olga enjoyed spending time with family, sewing, crocheting, knitting, decorating for the holidays, baking cookies and candy especially at Christmas, and traveling. Her favorite past time was playing cards with her friends. She was an avid sheepshead card player. She also liked playing hands and foot, penuckle, euchre, and dominos. She enjoyed life and had a funny sense of humor and liked to joke around and have fun with family and friends.
Olga is survived by her sons: Mark (Bonnie), John Wittman, Daniel (Fema) Wittman, and daughter, Heidi Schilt; grandchildren: Greta, Heather, Jeremy, Jessica, Mandy, Matthew, Michelle Lee, Stacy, and Sarah; great grandchildren: Axel, Brooklynn, Bryce, Emmett, James, Kaylee, Lillian, Mason, Mayson, Oliver, Orlando, and Ryan; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Germany.
Olga was preceded in death by her eleven siblings; former husband: LeRoy Wittman; long-time partner: Valdis Krastins (father of Heidi Schilt); son: Marcelino Wittman; and granddaughter Kayla Wittman.
Thank you to nurse Jessica at Appleton ThedaCare Regional Medical Center and CNA Stephanine at Cherry Meadows, for their kindness, compassion and excellent care they provided Olga in the last weeks of her life. Also, many thanks and appreciation to family, neighbors, and friends, who helped Olga with shopping, taking her to medical appointments, paperwork, bringing her meals and “doctoring her up”.
