Nelly Van Nuland, age 83, passed away peacefully August 25, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. We know that she is rejoined in heaven with Jesus and in reunion with those who have gone before her.
Nelly emigrated to the U.S. in 1948 from Nijmegen, Holland and married Martin (Marty) Van Nuland on June 22, 1950, He preceded her in death on December 18, 1994. She worked for Zwicker Knitting and Kimberly Clark, Corp. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed many years of volunteer work in the gift shop at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Nelly and Marty greatly enjoyed 25 years of active retirement together. In addition to her husband, Nelly is predeceased by her parents, Edmund and Theodora Cops, and her sisters Dorothy Van Nuland and Josephine Vincent.
She will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren: Michael Van Nuland, his wife Sue and their children Melissa and Matthew, Sue (Van Nuland) Waltman and her husband Mark, and Donald Van Nuland, his wife Laura and their daughters Danielle and Anna. Other survivors include her sisters and brothers and their spouses: Mary Havinga (and deceased husband Bill) Rev. Peter Cops, Annie and Ken Schuh, Hank and Joyce Cops, Eddie and Beverly Cops, Jerry and Bernice Cops, Rev. Gus Cops, Margie and Paul Young, as well as many nieces and nephews. Nelly is also remembered by many wonderful friends who provided significant care, support, and encouragement during the past 17 months.
Nelly touched many lives and was known as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest source of pride and pleasure were her four grandchildren who she loved dearly and who held a special place in her heart. She centered her life around her family and friends. Nelly truly enjoyed life and treasured her relationships with others. She was known for her quiet generosity and consistent caring for those around her. Nelly kept very active throughout her life, and thoroughly enjoyed activities with family and friends, reading, knitting and crocheting, as well as her Friday luncheons and cards with “the girls.” Nelly handled her illness with incredible courage, dignity and grace. Throughout her life, she took tremendous comfort in her deep and abiding faith and frequently expressed gratitude to be blessed with such a happy and wonderful life. She was a member of Holy Name (Holy Spirit) parish and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tim Goggins at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, including Jenny, Jamie, and all of the support staff, and to the ThedaCare Hospice/Cherry Meadows Hospice team of Chris, Nancy, Jim, Kathy, Sarah, Heather, Sandy, April, Terry, Dr. Homburg, Chaplin Jordan and many others who provided such excellent and loving care for Mom.
Nelly will be deeply missed to all of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007, at Holy Spirit Parish, Kimberly, 600 E. Kimberly Ave. Kimberly, WI, with Nelly’s brothers Fr. Gus Cops and Fr. Peter Cops officiating. Friends will be received at the Jansen Fargo Funeral Home, Kimberly, WI on Monday evening, August 27th from 5:30pm-8:30 pm and on Tuesday from 11:00-12:30 at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly, WI.
