Nancy “Nan” C. Mayer (Hopfensperger) of Appleton, WI joined her heavenly kingdom on September 19, 2024 at the age of 79. She was born to Arnold and Florence (Campbell) Hopfensperger on November 17, 1944. Nan met Jack Mayer, the love of her life, while attending Appleton High School and they were married shortly after. They were together for just over 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2022. Nan and Jack are now reunited in their love.
Nan was first and foremost a maternal soul, caring for everyone she loved. She was a very proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to 17. Nan was loving and empathetic to all her loved ones, making their problems her own. Holiday get-togethers were a true celebration, and her favorite holiday was Christmas. She would take so much time making lists, finding and wrapping the perfect gifts for each and every family member. You could often find Nan playing Candy Crush or stalking through J.P.’s Facebook account on her computer. She enjoyed special outings with her grandkids and attending their events. More than anything else in the world, Nan loved her family and cherished every moment she spent with them.
Nan will be deeply missed by her children, Greg (Jamie) Mayer, Jeff (Vicki) Mayer, Jody Anklam, Jamie (Heidi) Mayer, and J.P. (Niki) Mayer; her grandchildren, Kayleigh (Trevor), Kyle (Danielle), Aaron, Janey, Kylie, Nadine (Christian), Carson, Jackson, Alissa, and Talie; her great-granddaughter, Aria; her sister, Marilyn (Mark) Miller; several siblings-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.
Nan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her son, Curt; her parents, Arnold and Florence Hopfensperger; Jack’s parents, Wally and Violet Mayer; her brothers, Steve and Michael Hopfensperger; and her niece, Allyce (Tong).
A memorial visitation will be held for Nan from 9-11 AM on Monday, September 30, 2024 at Wichmann Tri-County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St, Menasha, WI 54952 with a memorial service to follow at 11 AM. Nan will be privately laid to rest with Jack at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton, WI.
Nan’s family would like to send a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and other supporting staff at Rennes Health Center, especially CNA Angie and nurse Nikki for all their care, compassion, and expertise shown during Nan’s times of need. Also, a big thanks to Vicky for her companionship and for keeping her hair stylin’ throughout the years.
