Age 63, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 24, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident. Myron was born January 27, 1940 in Luck, Wisconsin, son of the late Wesley Jackson and Mabel (nee Nelson) of Luck. Myron was a 1958 graduate of the Luck High School, and attended the University of Wisconsin – River Falls where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. He furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and received his Master’s Degree. On September 17, 1960, Myron married the former Anne Lindgren in Luck; she survives. Beginning in 1964, Myron began his teaching career at James Madison Middle School in Appleton, and remained there for thirty-three years in the science department.
Myron was a longtime and faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, the parish education committee, sang in the church choir, served in the youth ministry, and had a special love for serving on the church property committee. Myron was also a member of the Calumet Fliers Aero-Modeler’s Club, and worked as an instructor at the EAA Camp each summer. He was a former member of the Fox Valleyaires Barbershop Chorus and was a charter member of the Pride of the Valley Barbershop Chorus. Many will recall the Fun Lovers, a musical group well-known by senior citizens in the area. He was also a founder and co-owner of J & L IndusTrees, a tree farm where Myron spent much of his free time. For many years, he was a HAM radio operator, (WB9BBI), and was president of the radio club for a time. When his sons were young and active in the Cub Scouts, they had the privilege of having Dad as their Cubmaster. Following his retirement from the school system, he worked part-time for the Heart of the Valley YMCA in Kimberly.
Myron is survived by his mother: Mabel Jackson of Luck, Wisconsin; his wife: Anne Jackson of Appleton; five children: Kathy (Randy) Malchow of San Antonio, Texas and their children Nathan, Connor, and Maria; Scott (Colleen) Jackson of Menomonee Falls, and their children Michelle, Brian, and Aaron; Chris (Dave) Ducommun of Madison and their children Marissa, Alexa, and Joshua; Tom Jackson of Phoenix, Arizona and his longtime friend Shelly Born and her children John and Ashley; Mike (Amy) Jackson of Appleton and their children Leah, Rachel, and Molly. His grandchildren were his pride and joy!
Other survivors include three sisters: Joanna Lizbeth of Marion, Iowa; Lois (Dave) Petersen of Luck; Joyce (Roger) Spofford of Luck; a brother-in-law: Darryl Wikstrom of Frederic, Wisconsin; and a sister-in-law: Gail (Buzz) Gross of Bloomington, Minnesota. Myron is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister Loueen Wikstrom.
Funeral services for Myron will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 E. Calumet Street in Appleton with Rev. Gary Nokleberg and Rev. Roger McQuistion officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 – 8 PM and again Saturday directly at the church from 10 AM until the hour of the service.
Everyone who knew Myron will remember him as a life-long educator who always put the needs of others ahead of those of his own. Where there was a nail to be pounded, a board to be cut, or a job to be done, everyone knew that Myron was the man to call. He will be missed for those reasons and many more by all who knew and loved him.
