Muriel C. Ewald (Belling)
Age 89
Of Appleton, died peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2004 after a brief illness. She was born in Appleton on June 13, 1914, the only child of William C. and Edna (Kraemer) Belling. She married Elmer A. Ewald of St. Louis, MO on July 11, 1936, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together before her husband's death in 1986. She will be greatly missed by a daughter, Carolyn Kellogg, Grand Chute; four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mrs. Jeffrey) Patton, Appleton; Anne Edith Kellogg, Beverly Hills, CA, Catherine Mae Kellogg, Santa Monica, CA, and Michael Ewald Kellogg, Inglewood, CA; four great-grandchildren, David, Paul, William and Kathryn Patton, Appleton; one niece, Lois Ruff, Waterloo, Illinois; cousins Correne Davidsmeyer, Jacksonville, IL; Carita Williams, Neenah; cousin-in-law Joseph Van Grinsven, Appleton, and other beloved relatives and friends. Muriel graduated from the original Appleton High School (now Morgan Bldg.), and was a greatly respected secretary for Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent) and for John Swanson PhD., head of the Physical Chemistry Dept. of the Institute of Paper Chemistry. A lifelong member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, Muriel was Vice President of the Ladies' Aide Society and an advisor to the Young People's Society. Her favorite hobby was reading, but most of her activities centered on corresponding with and caring for her much loved family and friends. "Grandma was awesome!" Friends may call at Wichmann Funeral Home after 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Flowers are welcome, and a memorial fund is being established. Special thanks to loving neighbors Mark and Beth Peerenboom and Jim Miller, caregivers Gerry and Lori from Home Instead, and the kind nurses at 4 South, St. Elizabeth Hospital.
