Age 68, passed on to eternal rest on Monday, January 26, 2004 at Cherry Meadows Hospice, following a long battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Monica was born in Appleton, on September 19, 1935, the daughter of the late Henry and Theresa (Gruenzel) Bushman. She married Dennis VanderVelden on Р. Monica was employed at the Post Crescent, St. Elizabeth Hospital as a nurse’s aid, Marathon and Riverside Paper Companies. She loved bingo, pet dogs, family activities, poker, cribbage and was an accomplished seamstress. Monica will be greatly missed by her children, Steven (Susan) VanderVelden, Little Chute; Allan VanderVelden, Dale; Edward (Deanna) VanderVelden, Kaukauna; Mary (Joseph) Kunstman, Appleton; sisters, Virginia Hoerning, Appleton; Katheryn Johnson, British Columbia; brothers, James (Emogene) Bushman, Menasha; John (Bernice); Donald, Sr. (Harriet); Joseph, Sr. (Carol) Bushman, all of Appleton; Clem (Molly) Bushman, Pittsburg, CA; sister-in-law, Marie Bushman, Appleton; grandchildren, JoAnn, Emily, and Ben Kunstman; Tom, Tyler, Tanya, Ashley, Kyle & Anthony VanderVelden; and daughter-in-law, Patricia VanderVelden. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Monica was preceded in death by her infant son, Thomas; her sister, Mary Ann LaChapell and brothers, Sylvester and Eugene Bushman. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Rev. David Belongia officiating. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday, January 30 from 4 until 8 p.m., and again at the church on Saturday from 10 until 10:45 a.m. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home. The interment will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Appleton.
