Hungerford, Milo A.
Milo A. Hungerford, 83, formerly of Kimberly, passed away at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wis., on Thursday, Aug., 29, 2008. He was born on May 2, 1925, in Sheridan, Wis., to Mary Ellen and Milo Hungerford, Sr. Milo was a World War II veteran, serving his country in Germany, as well as stateside. He retired from the Appleton Coated (Locks Mill) in 1987, after 40 years of service. He was united in marriage to Beverly Longsine on Feb. 21, 1948. They shared 60 years together.
During his life he enjoyed cutting firewood for himself and family and also sold it to the public. He will be remembered for his “parties on the patio” at their home in Kimberly. Many “old fashioneds” were enjoyed! He also created homemade fire barrels out of old washtubs, the best part being the faces he would cut out of the sides. Some of them are still in backyards today! He also had a green thumb and enjoyed tending a garden. One of our fondest memories is of dad walking behind the Rototiller and working in the “pickle patch.” He was always willing to come over and “til up” your garden too! Milo sold Christmas trees out of his backyard in Kimberly on First Street for many years. He had all of his kids help in some way or another. He was given the nickname “Stud” and he certainly lived up to it.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sons, Michael (Barbara) Hungerford, Kaukauna; Scott Hungerford (Tracy Jeszke), Little Chute; Mark (Cindy) Hungerford, Little Chute; his daughters, Mary (Bruce) Smith/(Larry Ware), Neenah; Lori (Bill) Van Asten, Kimberly; Paula Hungerford (John Sakowski), Appleton; and his son-in-law, Richard Purchatzke; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Julia Wiesner; brothers, Bill, Ralph, Gordon, Richard and Marlin Hungerford; brothers-in-law, Herbert Longsine, Bill Schuler and Herbert (Skinny) Pecor; his sister-in-law, Loretta Pecor; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and a daughter, Trixie Purchatzke.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jansen Fargo Funeral Home and funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. The Rev. Kurt Kovanen will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
