Mildred "Mickey" Christie

Mildred “Mickey” Christie, age 94 of Stockbridge, passed away due to Covid-19 on December 14, 2020 at St. Paul Elder Care in Kaukauna. Mickey was born on January 30, 1926 in Bonesteel, South Dakota, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Skalla) Schumacher. She came to Stockbridge, Wisconsin with her parents in November of 1927 where She attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school, Stockbridge High School and Oshkosh Business College. She worked as a volunteer teacher aide at the grade school, worked for the Oshkosh City Attorney, and worked as a volunteer nurse’s aide at Mercy Medical during WWII. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Stockbridge where she sang in the church choir, was a member of the Christian Ladies, and was also a member of the Calumet County Homemakers.

Mickey married Justin Christie on February 3, 1946 at Camp Pickett, Virginia. On his return from service in France they farmed the Christie Homestead where they lived and raised their family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mickey made sure her kids got to the County Park for skiing and then she decided to try skiing so she could join in the fun. She was a talented seamstress, making doll clothes for Christmas gifts, clothes for her kids, and re-making a man’s wool coat into an adorable jacket for a child. She made quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mickey is survived by her loving children: Susan (Paul) Ludwig of Chilton, Jeff (Jeanne) Christie of Gays Mills, Peg (Jim) Meyer of Sturgeon Bay, Pat Christie (Mike Shouldice) of Mercer, Mary Christie (Greg Heuser) of Mosinee, Amy Christie of Chilton, and Janine Christie (Gary Karls) of Stockbridge. Her  grandchildren are: Todd (Shelly) Ludwig, Brad (Trisha) Ludwig, Eric (Sharon) Ludwig, Nic (Angie) Ludwig, Tom (Meghan) Christie, Ellen Christie, Dr. Cari (Steve Yazawa) Meyer, Ryan (Shannon) Meyer, Kristen (John) Erdman, and Justin (Sara) Karls. Her great grandchildren are: Brandon and Sawyer Ludwig, Lawson and Ava Ludwig, Jackson, Hudson, and Mason Ludwig, Everleigh and Brooks Ludwig, Jack and Mason Christie, Brynna, Makena, Logan and Lilah Yazawa, Claire and Anna Meyer, and Atlas and Indira Erdman. Mickey is also survived by her dear friend since childhood Ellen Schultz, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Justin, infant granddaughter Erin Ludwig, siblings: Vincent (Ida) Schumacher, Lester (Marie) Schumacher, Alred (Madeline) Schumacher, Dorothy (Arthur) Kiefer, Maxine (Robert) Kettenhofen, her husband’s parents James and Monica Christie, and his siblings: Margaret (Don) Trott, Kay (Jim) Lewellen, Dolores (Earl) Hemauer, and Mary Alice Christie.

Mickey passed away on December 14th but due to the pandemic her funeral was postponed until now, when we can gather safely. Mickey’s family would like to invite family, friends, and anyone who was blessed to have known her to celebrate her life.  The celebration will be on Friday, July 30, 2021. Visitation at 10:30 at St. Mary’s Church in Stockbridge. Funeral mass at 11:30, burial to follow. Lunch will be served at the Stockbridge Fireman’s Park following the burial. So come share your stories, have some lunch and remember Mickey for the person we all loved.
