Age 93, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2005 at St. Paul Elder Services. Millie was born in Little Chute on August 15, 1911, daughter of the late Albert and Susan (Schommer) DeBruin. Millie was married to Gerald Smith, who preceded her in death in 1965. Over the years, she worked as a bookkeeper at both Weyers Implement and Fargo Furniture Store in Kaukauna. Millie enjoyed bowling, card playing, and fishing. Many will remember that she enjoyed eating her catch as much as she enjoyed catching it!
Millie is survived by two brothers: Carl (Grace) DeBruin and Cal DeBruin, both of Kaukauna; three sisters: Betty (Richard) Van Wychen of Kaukauna, Ruth (Nick) Geurts of Mountain, and Mary Alice (Ralph) Meulemans of Kaukauna; two sisters-in-law: Martha DeBruin and Gloria DeBruin, both of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law: Cliff Weyers of Kaukauna; four step-grandchildren: Rick, Kay, Ken, and Jim; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald and his son Donald Smith, brothers Alvin, Fritz, and Ray (Honey) DeBruin, sisters Mae DeBruin and Mary Lou Weyers, and a sister-in-law Joan DeBruin.
The funeral liturgy for Millie will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 10, 2005 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service.
The family would like to extend their thanks to all of the wonderful people at St. Paul Elder Services. You made St. Paul feel like home to Millie for the past several years, and we will always be grateful for all that you have done.
