Age 96, died Sunday morning, April 21, 2002. She was born May 26, 1905, to the late Lester and Carrie (Sheldon) Safford, in Embarrass. Mildred lived in White Lake for 28 years and in Appleton for 43 years, where she was employed by the Board of Education, for 35 years. The past 6 years were in the Chilton Village Nursing Home, Chilton. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church.
Mildred is survived by her children Joyce and Roger Popelka, Bradenton, FL; Janice Mader, and her special friend Carl DeCoster, Chilton; Jerry Voigt and his special friend, Linda Vitale, Byron, IL; her special former daughter-in-law, Joyce Voigt, Minneapolis, MN; three grandsons, Roger W. (Carol) Popelka; Dennis (Diana) Mader; Michael Mader; five granddaughters, Dawn Popelka; Susan (Mike) Nugent; Julie Jay (Voigt); Jennifer (Dave) Modder; Jolene (John) Konkel; eight great grandsons and three great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert H. Voigt, November 1947, a daughter June M. Voigt, a great granddaughter, Melissa Mader, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Mildred will be held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the funeral home with Reverend J. Christian Quello officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Embarrass. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to First English Lutheran Church.
