Age 87, died on Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Rosewood Care Center in Peoria, IL. Mildred was born on December 10, 1913 in Wausau, WI, daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Tesch) Bessert. She was a cook at Mary’s Drive-in for over 20 years. Mildred was a longtime member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, and held many offices in various church groups and the PTA. She was a past member of the Deborah Rebekah Lodge #13 in Appleton. Mildred was active in many organizations; including a Leader in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She received a certificate from the City of Appleton for being an outstanding continuous voting citizen for 50 years. Her main hobby was history, and she loved to discuss important people, places, and leaders of the past. Mildred enjoyed the opera, and would attend a show whenever she was able. She also loved sports; especially baseball, and liked nothing better than to see the Milwaukee Braves play. Mildred is survived by her son, Jon (Shirley) Dresden, Peoria, IL; her daughter, Gloria Wagner, Lubbock. TX; 4 grandchildren, Robin (Ovidio) Ortiz, Lubbock; Michael, Thomas and Peter Dresden, all of Peoria; and a great-granddaughter, Candace Herrmann, Bradford, IL. Her sister, Estelle (Jess) Kohl and her brother, Mynard (Alice) Bessert, preceded her in death. Mildred’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at the funeral home, with Rev. David Kalas officiating. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Appleton; and St. Francis OSF Hospice in Peoria; are appreciated.
