Mildred B. Mattice passed away quietly on September 19, 2018, with family by her side, at the age of 92. She was born in Appleton on July 24, 1926, to Frank and Dorothy (Tennie) Nussbaum.
She graduated from Appleton High School in 1944. On June 16, 1951, she married Arden A. Mattice at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton.
After graduation, Millie worked as a secretary in the Appleton High School office for eight years. She later worked for eight years as a bookkeeper for Fountain Lumber Co. In 1963, she went to work at Albany International, Appleton Wire Division and retired from there in 1991 after 27 years in customer service.
She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church and has been an active lifetime member. Millie spent many hours volunteering there as a Eucharistic Minister, as Sacristan for five years, and as a helper in the office. She also belonged to the Christian Mothers Society.
Millie was a devoted Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer fan and enjoyed UW Wisconsin football. She was also an avid reader.
Millie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Arden; 2 sons: Robert (Marge) Mattice, of Green Bay, and Thomas (Michele) Mattice, of Indianapolis, IN; 2 daughters: Mary Luedeke, of Appleton, and Barbara (Mark) Lennert, of New Port Richey, FL; 5 grandchildren: Brian Mattice (Ciara Branshaw), of Chippewa Falls, Karen (Caitlin) Rowland, of La Habra, CA, Jennifer (Joseph) Kaufman of Clackamas, OR, Nicole Luedeke of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Andrew Mattice of Indianapolis, IN; a sister: Rosemary and husband Vernon Friebel, of Kaukauna; 2 brothers-in-law: Ralph Ulman, of Appleton, and Merlin Mattice of Alaska; 4 sisters-in-law Virgine and Jean Mattice, Grace Burch, and Betty and husband Gilbert Ninneman, all in the Wausau area; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sons; a granddaughter: Sarah Mattice; a brother: Donald and wife Sylvia Nussbaum; 2 sisters: Adeline Ulman and Joan and husband Thomas Gasser; a sister-in-law: Dawn Mattice; 4 brothers-in-law: Donald, Bill, and Marvin Mattice and Larry Burch; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Millie’s funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, O.F.M. Cap., officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, or directed to St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Appleton.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center in Appleton and Affinity Hospice for their loving care of Millie/Mom.
